CLIMB TO 3 SUMMITS & 1 LAKE IN 5 DAYS
POSTED BY M. PULAKITA HASVI
My experience to trek up 3 summits and 1 frozen lake in 5 days —
So, it had started off something like this, I was already for the expedition about 1 1/2 month ago, and as soon as I got the information about my expedition I had stopped eating all chocolates and junk and started to focus on my fitness the most, with already scoring an 89.9% in studies right before the trip.
So, this was a winter climb to 4 summits
Frozen lake Majhach
Mangankot
Bijli Mahadev
Lamadugh
Also, this was my first time in snow!.!.
And I wasn’t ready for that at all, cause I hated snow and was inexperienced about that too. So, it was time when I had to leave Hyderabad for Himachal Pradesh.
I was as always having mixed feelings about the trip.
Once I reached Delhi I met all the team members and was excited to spend 5 whole days with them. We had then taken a bus from Delhi to Himachal Pradesh which was about 12 hours drive. I definitely loved the drive and the beautiful scenery.
The first day was a trek up to the base camp of Mt. Mangankot, not much of an altitude but definitely a lot of snow and ice! We were able to reach the base camp in about 2.5 hours and that was when we went for an acclimatization hike to a ridge nearby.
This was also my first time in a tent and also my first time in a sleeping bag of -40 degrees and definitely a first time with a toilet tent..
The first day-night was a really funny and shocking night when a couple of us wake up because of the heavy and sting winds at midnight, lucky for me cause I thought they were avalanches on the tent :)Wait, till I found out it was just a really strong wind that ruined my sleep 4 times at the night. That is not it the next morning also there were really strong winds and that was when I toilet tent was about to fly, : yeah literally that strong winds:
The second day was our climb up to the frozen lake Majhach, where we literally had to go to a different mountain, that took about 11 hours for us, the main part of it is it’s the inclined level that gets everyone’s calf hearting like crazyyy, but yeah I enjoyed it a lot cause I was active after the 11 hours of trek also which was really funny.
Well, that night I had a good sleep ( without avalanches in my dreams).
The third day comes when we had to summit Mt. Mangankot which was again a really savage climb with the inclined route and a lot like a lot of snow and on top of that I had to carry a bag of one of the trek mates too, to get ready for the future climb but the snow again which at a point comes to your knee level, crazy ain’t it ?!?
But yeah the last 15 minutes of the climb was technical as crazy cause there was nothing on the left side and there was only a little gap to fit yourself and your snow stick in!!
Unfortunately, only 4 of us could make it to the summit out of 8.
But I was able to summit and descent : alive:
Also as a matter of fact I did fall a couple of times in the snow!
But Then, after a 9-hour long walk, we reached back to the camps where I was again really active and overwhelmed by the fact that I was able to summit in the snow.!
Then, here comes the next day where we were supposed to descent then base camp of Mt. Mangankot and summit Bijli Mahadev, which was a picnic ( according to sir) but yeah it was not less than a picnic with the scenic and trek mates.
But Bijli Mahadev is easy because it had a path and a route to go which were just staircases that ended in only 45 minutes, this was a very spiritual place cause this was the place dedicated to lord shiva and a lightening sticks his Trishul placed there only once on 12 years!!!
So, the next and the last day was to summit lamadugh which was another one of those typically hard days with snow and ice especially but also with an inclined route but I had to do it was a heavy bag ( for practice).
Then, I was successfully able to complete 4 climbs in 5 days.
The lesson I learned from this expedition is that you must always face your hatred because it’s now or never, you must always get over your hatred to love it.
Last, but not the least the team was amazing, a bunch of youngsters and really jovial and funny that can always keep you moving.
