OVERVIEW
Deo Tibba, the second-highest peak in the Pir Panjal Range after Indarasan, is a mountaineer’s dream as it provides an excellent opportunity to learn technical mountaineering skills necessary for climbing high-altitude mountains. The peak’s technical ascent makes it an ideal destination for mountaineering courses offered by the ABVIMAS mountaineering institute in Manali. The peak’s name has mythological significance, as it is believed to be the gathering place of gods/devas to discuss important issues.
The climb to the summit of Deo Tibba is challenging, but the reward is an exhilarating view of vast snowfields, hanging glaciers, and lofty peaks of the surrounding ranges. Climbers must tackle difficult terrain, including steep ice passes, crevassed glaciers, a rock fall area, and a ridge. The mountain has an extensive ice cap, and climbers must ascend a challenging hump of inclined wind slab snow using crampons, ice axes, and fixed ropes.
Due to the technical nature of the climb, Deo Tibba is not recommended for absolute beginners. However, those with previous trekking and climbing experience and knowledge of snow, ice, and mountaineering techniques can attempt this expedition.
