OVERVIEW
Mt. Kun, with a height of 7077 meters, is the second-highest peak of the Nun Kun massif situated in the upper Suru Valley. It is a towering and majestic mountain located in the Zanskar Range and lies on the Indian side of the Line of Control. The twin peaks of Nun (7135 meters) and Kun are separated by a snow plateau that extends for around 4 kilometers.
The first person to climb the Kun peak was Italian mountaineer Mario Piacenza in the year 1913. However, it took 58 years for an Indian Army Expedition to successfully climb the mountain again. The climb to the summit is technically challenging and demands extensive knowledge of mountaineering techniques like using ice axes, roping up procedures, crampons, and jumar climbing. Due to unpredictable weather conditions and rough terrain, it is essential for aspirants to be physically fit and possess high mental endurance.
The expedition to Mt. Kun is a unique opportunity for experienced mountaineers who are looking for an adventure in the Himalayas. The itinerary is designed in a way that allows everyone to acclimatize well and make the climb to the summit safely. The ascent to the top of the mountain requires a high level of physical fitness, technical expertise, and mental fortitude. It is an ideal expedition for those who are aspiring to climb 8000M+ peaks.
The climb to the summit of Mt. Kun is an arduous and demanding journey that requires a high level of commitment and dedication. The trek is characterized by its extreme weather conditions, rough terrain, and difficult ascent. The route to the top is fraught with challenges, but the reward of reaching the summit of Mt.
