overview

UT Kangri, standing at approximately 6,070 metres in Ladakh, offers a demanding winter mountaineering experience in the remote Himalayan landscape. The expedition takes climbers through the Rumtse Phu region, with progressive acclimatisation, high-altitude camping and a summit attempt in challenging winter conditions.

A winter ascent of UT Kangri demands much more than physical fitness. Extremely cold temperatures, strong winds, snow-covered terrain and prolonged hours at altitude make this a serious endurance challenge. Participants must be prepared for sustained physical exertion, basic mountain living and the demands of operating in a harsh winter environment.

The expedition includes time for acclimatisation, rest and summit preparation before the attempt to reach the 6,070-metre summit. The summit day is expected to be the most physically demanding part of the journey, requiring steady pacing, sound judgement and close coordination with the expedition team. The final plan will depend on weather, snow conditions and the team’s safety assessment.

This expedition is suited to physically fit and well-prepared participants with previous high-altitude trekking or mountaineering experience. Strong cardiovascular endurance, mental resilience and the ability to manage extreme cold are essential.

Note: Prices mentioned are applicable for Indian passport holders. For foreign passport holders, the cost may vary. Please connect with the Boots & Crampons team for clarity.

Note: An indemnity document will be shared before the expedition. Signing it is mandatory.

Frequently asked questions

The expedition involves high-altitude mountain terrain, including rocky trails, moraines and snow-covered slopes. Depending on snow conditions and the selected route, sections of the ascent may require technical mountaineering equipment and rope techniques. Winter conditions can make the terrain significantly more demanding.

The expedition aims to reach the summit of UT Kangri at approximately 6,070 metres (19,915 feet). At this altitude, reduced oxygen availability and the effects of altitude can significantly affect physical performance. Proper acclimatisation and close monitoring of health are essential.
